A cubic yard is 3’x3’x3′
A newer, full size, long bed pickup truck has a capacity of 2.5-3.3 cubic yards level full.
Side Note: Hard won experience over decades in construction has taught me that 2.5 yards is pushing it in real life, what with tools, tool boxes, air gaps, wheel wells always being in the wrong spot for that other darned old lazy-boy and just plain life.
A 10 cubic yard dumpster holds somewhere between 3 and 4 full size pickup loads.
A 12 cubic yard dumpster holds somewhere between 3.6 and 4.8 full size pickup loads.
A 14 cubic yard dumpster holds somewhere between 4.2 and 5.6 full size pickup loads.
An average lazyboy recliner takes up about 1.4 cubic yards.
An average washing machine takes up about .7 cubic yards
Water, snow, rain: A decent rain and/or snow can add significant weight to a dumpster, especially absorbent materials like books, clothing, covers, sheets, towels, carpet, plaster & sheetrock. Contractor bags or a cheap tarp thrown over a dumpster and tied off before a storm can pay for itself fairly quickly by avoiding extra weight charges. (Over 4,000 pounds or 2 tons.)
